WORM CARE

Simply put, the Red Wiggler, scientifically known as Eisenia fetida, is a type of earthworm that can be found in various locations. They are highly beneficial for our environment. They assist in soil enrichment, kitchen waste reduction, composting facilitation, and the production of excellent fertilizer for plants.

Red wigglers are beneficial in several ways:

Soil: Red wigglers reside only 3-8 inches beneath the surface, creating burrows as they move. These burrows facilitate the entry of air and water into the soil, enhancing drainage and providing room for the development of plant roots.

Plants: The castings left behind by red wigglers are rich in essential nutrients and organic matter, which nourish both the soil and plants.

Compost: Red wigglers efficiently transform scraps such as shredded paper, coffee grounds, and eggshells into compost, enriching it with castings that serve as nutrient-rich soil and natural fertilizer for gardens.

For small-scale gardening at home, here's what you can do with red wigglers:

a. You can release them into your garden, where they will naturally enhance soil quality and promote plant growth through their burrowing activities and castings.

b. You can place them in your compost bin or worm bin, allowing them to process organic waste materials and produce nutrient-rich castings that can be collected and used to fertilize your plants.

Travel stresses them a bit so your worms may look dry and shrunken. No worries, you can refresh them with a small application of room temperature water. They will be back to their fatness within 1-2 days. We do ship more worms than you order just in case for anyone that didn’t make it in transit or due to dehydration. However, if most of your worms are dead on arrival under regular condition (not because they were left in the mail box or on the porch), please contact us ASAP
